Are you ready to immerse yourself in a world that’s teeming with stunning plant life? At Mashpi, the surrounding cloud forest will dazzle you with its incredible floral diversity. Prepare for an unforgettable sensory experience as you head out along winding paths, surrounded by Colocasia, more commonly referred to as “elephant’s ears,” bromeliads, cecropia, and copal trees (which are among the tallest in the whole Reserve), all the way to Heliconias, also known as “wild bananas.” Be sure to breathe in the experience and keep an eye out for all the natural treasures that are hidden in every detail!
Fauna

- Birds: Mashpi’s cloud forest serves as a birdwatching sanctuary, boasting sightings of over 400 species of magnificent, winged creatures. Among the most emblematic are tanagers, euphonias, toucans, woodpeckers, hummingbirds, trogons, and birds of prey.
- Mammals: Guests at Mashpi Lodge will have the privilege of potentially encountering a wide variety of mammals, including Agoutis (small diurnal and nocturnal rodents), Tayra (one of the most exotic creatures in the Reserve), Ring-tailed Coati, Howler Monkeys, the Sedoro Anteater, and many other remarkable rainforest animals native to the region. Majestic Waterfalls

The Magnolia Waterfall, for example, stands tall and proud at 114 feet (35 meters), its waters cascading gracefully through moss-covered rock cliffs in several stages. Another must-see waterfall site is the Copal Waterfall, reaching 131 feet (40 meters). Here, the water flows gently through multiple levels of rock, creating a series of small natural pools that beckon you to cool off and refresh yourself amidst the tranquil surroundings.

The Sky Bike

The Dragonfly
The Dragonfly Canopy Gondola at Mashpi offers an excellent opportunity to witness the most extraordinary and magical aspects of the Reserve. Our Dragonfly is an innovative cable car designed to transport you through and over the forest. This attraction accommodates four people and an expert guide who will explain the flora and fauna of the Mashpi Reserve.
As the Dragonfly slowly glides above the treetops, you’ll feel like you’re within arm’s reach of touching them and marvel at the breathtaking views of the cloud forest in all its splendor.
Birdwatching
